Beti’s Reflections

I’m always on the hunt for unique recipes to tantalize my taste buds, so when I heard about this Mexican-inspired sassy chilli chocolate cake, I knew I had to give it a try! After gathering all the ingredients – 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt, 3/4 cup butter, softened, 2 cups granulated sugar, 3 large eggs, room temperature , 1 tsp vanilla extract , 3/4 cup buttermilk, room temperature , 2 tbsp chilli powder , and 1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips – I mixed them together and poured the batter into a greased and floured 9-inch round cake pan.

As it baked in the oven, the aroma of chilli powder and chocolate chips filled my kitchen. When the timer went off, I took out the cake and let it cool for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack. When I cut into it, I was amazed at how moist and flavorful it was! Everyone at the dinner party loved it and asked for seconds. This sassy chilli chocolate cake is sure to be a hit at any gathering – trust me!
